Is Same-Day Dentistry Right for Your Smile?
Fewer visits, no temporary crown, and a finished restoration before you leave. Here is how same-day dentistry works and who it suits.

Most people want dental work done well and done quickly. Same-day dentistry does both. Instead of taking impressions, sending them to a lab, wearing a temporary, and coming back weeks later, we design and make your restoration in the office while you wait. For many patients in Glendale and the West Valley, it means one visit instead of two or three.
It is not the right fit for every tooth or every situation, though. Below we explain how it works at Singh Smile Care, what we look at when deciding whether you are a candidate, and when a slower, staged plan is the better choice.
How Same-Day Dentistry Works
We start with a digital scan of your teeth instead of a tray of impression material. Dr. Singh designs the restoration on a computer, and our in-office Glidewell.io milling unit cuts it from a block of BruxZir NOW zirconia. The crown is checked, adjusted, and bonded in the same appointment, usually in about one to two hours. No temporary, no second visit.
Crowns, inlays, onlays, and some veneers can be made this way. We also offer same-day root canals, extractions, and implants, and we see emergency patients the same day.
Who Is a Good Candidate
Same-day restorations work best when the tooth and the tissue around it are healthy enough to support a permanent fix right away. Dr. Singh reviews digital X-rays and does a clinical exam before deciding.
- Back teeth, where strength matters most
- Minor to moderate decay or fractures
- Healthy gums for an accurate scan and fit
- Enough bone to support the tooth long-term
- No active infection
What the Evaluation Looks Like
We talk about your dental history and what you want. Then we examine the tooth, take digital X-rays, and check your bite and the neighboring teeth. If same-day care makes sense, we explain the procedure, how long it will take, and how to care for the tooth afterward. You can ask questions before anything starts. If you need other work too, we will tell you whether it can be combined or should be phased.
The Benefits
Temporary crowns are a common source of frustration. They can feel rough, come loose, or cause sensitivity. Skipping them is one of the biggest advantages of same-day care.
- One appointment, no return visit for placement
- No temporary crown to crack or cause sensitivity
- Digital scanning for a precise, comfortable fit
- Strong zirconia matched to your tooth shade
- Less total time in the chair
When It Is Not the Best Fit
Some situations need groundwork first. Significant bone loss may call for grafting before an implant. Active gum disease needs periodontal treatment before a permanent restoration. If the tooth needs a root canal, that comes first, though it can often be done the same day. Complex cases, like several front teeth or a full-mouth restoration, usually follow a staged plan so the result looks right and lasts.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a same-day crown take?
About one to two hours from scan to final placement, including milling. More complex restorations can take longer, and we will give you a realistic estimate before we start.
Is a same-day crown as good as a lab-made crown?
Yes. BruxZir NOW zirconia is strong and precisely fitted from a digital scan. With normal brushing, flossing, and checkups, it is built to last like a traditional crown.
What if I need a root canal first?
The root canal is done first to clear the infection. Because we offer same-day root canals, in many cases the root canal and the crown can both be completed in a single visit.
