Dental pain rarely picks a convenient time. When it hits, you want someone to answer the phone and tell you what to do. Call (623) 400-6009 during office hours. Our front desk will ask a few questions, give you first-aid instructions and get you in that day, whether or not you have been here before.

Because crowns, root canals, extractions and implant placement are all done in our Glendale office, an emergency visit is usually a fix, not just a referral. You should leave with the pain under control and a clear plan for anything that still needs doing.

What Counts as a Dental Emergency

Sharp, constant pain is an emergency even without other symptoms. A dull ache that comes and goes, a small chip or food stuck between teeth can usually wait a day or two, but call us anyway so we can book you in.

  • Severe or constant toothache
  • Broken, cracked or chipped tooth
  • Knocked-out tooth
  • Abscess, facial or gum swelling, pus or fever
  • Lost crown or filling leaving the tooth exposed
  • Bleeding that does not stop
  • Throbbing pain after a recent extraction (possible dry socket)

What to Do While You Wait

Knocked-out tooth: pick it up by the crown, not the root. Keep it moist in milk or warm salt water and come straight in. The sooner we see you, the better the chance of replanting it.

Toothache or abscess: rinse with warm salt water and take an over-the-counter pain reliever. Swelling with fever needs to be seen today, because an infection can spread.

Broken or chipped tooth: rinse with warm water, press gauze on any bleeding, use a cold compress for swelling and save the pieces in wet gauze.

Lost crown or filling: keep the crown if you have it and avoid chewing on that side. Do not try to reattach it with household glue.

Cut lip, cheek or tongue: clean the area and apply pressure with gauze. If it is large or the bleeding does not stop, seek medical care.

Dentist or Emergency Room?

For tooth pain, a broken tooth or a lost filling, a dentist is the right call; a hospital ER can give pain relief and antibiotics but cannot fix the tooth. Go to the ER or call 911 for trauma to the face or jaw, swelling that makes it hard to breathe or swallow, or heavy bleeding that does not slow with pressure.

How We Treat Emergencies

We start with an exam and a digital X-ray to find the cause, then relieve the pain. Depending on what we find, that may mean a filling, a same-day crown, a root canal, draining an infection, or removing a tooth that cannot be saved. Antibiotics are prescribed when there is infection.

Nervous Patients Welcome

Pain and fear often arrive together. Our team is known for slowing down, explaining what we are doing and checking in with you throughout. As one patient wrote after her emergency visit, "They went above and beyond to help calm my anxiety." Tell us how you are feeling and ask about comfort options.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be an existing patient?

No. New patients with emergencies are welcome and are seen the same day. If you have dental insurance, bring your card so we can check your benefits.

My tooth was knocked out. Can it be saved?

Sometimes, if we see you quickly. Keep the tooth moist in milk or warm salt water, do not scrub it, and come in right away so we can try to replant it.

Can you see my child?

Yes. We treat dental emergencies for patients of all ages, including chipped or broken baby teeth from falls.

What will the visit cost?

We tell you the cost of any treatment before we start. We accept most insurance plans, and CareCredit, Cherry and LendingClub are available if you need to spread the cost.

I have a toothache but no swelling. Is it an emergency?

If the pain is sharp or constant, yes. Pain that lingers after hot or cold, or hurts when you bite, usually means the nerve is involved and the tooth needs treatment soon.

In pain right now?
