The Benefits of Invisalign for Teens

Teens care about how they look. Invisalign straightens teeth without the brackets and wires, so treatment does not have to show.

The Benefits of Invisalign for Teens

The teenage years are when appearance starts to matter a lot, and crooked or crowded teeth can affect both a smile and the shape of the face. Traditional metal braces fix the problem but are hard to miss and come with food rules and extra cleaning. Invisalign offers a quieter way to get the same result.

At Singh Smile Care in Glendale we offer Invisalign for teens as well as adults. Here is how it works, why so many teens and parents choose it, and what makes a teen a good candidate.

How Invisalign Works

Invisalign is a series of clear, custom aligners that gradually move teeth into place. We take a 3D scan of your teen's teeth to plan the movement and make each set to fit exactly. Each set is worn for at least two weeks before moving to the next, and the aligners are nearly invisible, so your teen can wear them at school and out with friends without feeling self-conscious.

Why Teens Like It

Brackets and wires can rub and injure the inside of the mouth. Aligners are smooth and sit comfortably against the gums. Because they come out to eat, there are no food restrictions, and your teen just rinses before putting them back in. They can play sports without the injury risk that comes with metal braces. And since teeth are brushed and flossed with the trays out, hygiene stays simple. Braces make the backs of the teeth harder to clean.

  • Comfort: smooth plastic, no brackets or wires to cut the cheeks
  • Freedom: aligners come out for meals, sports, and photos
  • Looks: nearly invisible, and they can hide minor imperfections
  • Cleaning: brush and floss normally with the aligners out

Is Every Teen a Candidate?

Not quite, which is why we start with an exam. Healthy gums are needed to support tooth movement, so any gum disease is treated first. Cavities or decay could cause problems during treatment, so we strengthen the teeth before starting. The biggest factor is commitment. Aligners need to be worn 20 to 22 hours a day and cleaned daily. A teen who leaves them in a backpack will not get results, and neglected trays can stain and become noticeable.

What Treatment Looks Like

After the scan, your teen receives the first sets of aligners and instructions. We check progress every six to eight weeks and hand over the next sets. Many teens see their final result in 12 to 18 months, and minor cases can be quicker. For teens 16 and older with mainly cosmetic concerns, Six Month Smiles clear aligners are another option designed to take around six months.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many hours a day does my teen need to wear the aligners?

Twenty to 22 hours a day. They come out for eating, drinking anything other than water, and brushing. Wearing them less slows progress and can extend treatment.

How long does Invisalign take for teens?

It varies with the case. Many teens finish in 12 to 18 months. Simple cases can be shorter, and skipping wear time makes it longer.

How should aligners be cleaned?

Rinse them every time they come out, and once a day soak them in warm (not hot) water and scrub gently with a soft toothbrush. Clean trays stay clear and keep bacteria from building up.
